Tips for Your Next Trip to Ecuador

Are you planning your next trip to Ecuador? Excellent choice! This country has something for everyone. In this blog, I’ll share my best tips and recommendations to ensure your trip is a unique and unforgettable experience.

Best Time to Visit Ecuador

Ecuador has a great diversity of climates, so the best time to visit will depend on the destination you choose:

·        Coast and Galapagos Islands: November to February.
·        Highlands (Sierra): April to November, for dry and mild weather.
·        Amazon: June to November, to avoid the rains and enjoy the biodiversity.
·        In the Galapagos Islands, the best time to see giant tortoises during nesting season is between June and November.
·        Pack light clothing for the coast, warm clothing for the highlands, and rain gear for the Amazon.

Accommodation:

Ecuador offers a wide range of accommodations to suit all budgets. You can find everything from luxurious resorts to cozy lodges. Consider the following types of accommodation:

·        Hotels: Ideal for those looking for comfort and services.
·        Lodges: You’ll have a more authentic experience, often located in rural areas.
·        Airbnb: Greater flexibility and more affordable options.

In the Amazon, we recommend staying in an eco-lodge to fully immerse yourself in nature and enjoy activities like pink dolphin watching.

Food

Ecuadorian cuisine is a delight. Don’t miss dishes like ceviche, encocado, locro de papa, encebollado, and delicious fresh juices.

There are a variety of options, from local dishes to international cuisine.

If you're looking for more economical options, you can ask for “almuerzos” (lunches) at midday and “meriendas” (dinners) in the evening at any restaurant.

Health:

Don’t forget to get travel insurance.

Bring a basic first-aid kit with painkillers, antihistamines, and sunscreen.

If you feel unwell and need a doctor to check on you, you can go to the nearest health center.

Safety

Ecuador is a safe country for tourists, but like anywhere, it’s important to take basic precautions:

·        Avoid walking alone in dark or less-traveled areas.
·        Keep your valuables in a safe place.
·        Hire local guides to explore remote areas.

Money

The official currency of Ecuador is the US dollar. You can exchange money at banks or exchange offices.

Transportation

Ecuador has a good road infrastructure. If you need to travel within the country, you can do so via public transportation such as buses, trams, or subways, depending on the city you’re in. Additionally, if you prefer a more personalized service, you can use a taxi, Uber, or rent a car.
